Kauai Vacation Planning

Many people think that planning their vacation is where the fun starts, and Kauai vacation planning is certainly no different – let the fun begin.

Planning any vacation is always an exciting thing to do, booking the flights, choosing accommodation (close enough to the beach, shops and restaurants, but quiet enough to be relaxing – close enough for airport transfers but not in the exact flight path – you remember the sort of thing), snapping up the latest holiday bargains (well, you’d never wear those shorts at home now would you, you might see someone you know) and stocking up on sun crème and bug spray. Very often it’s quite ok to simply arrive in your destination and see what takes your fancy, but in Kauai there is so much that will take your fancy, you owe it to yourself to plan it down to the last detail – we’re not talking military operation exactly, after all, vacations are supposed to be relaxing, but once you arrive you really won’t want to miss a thing.

Fortunately those thoughtful people of Kauai have taken a lot of time and effort to put out loads of useful information on "things to do" so you won’t have any trouble in finding out the in places for eating and shopping, the best beaches for swimming and the best value trips.

Planning the Perfect Vacation to Kauai

Flights – of course this depends on where you’re starting from, but there are loads of direct flights to Honolulu Airport, which is just a 25 minute hop away from Kauai. Prices for flights vary according to season but there are often bargains to be had if you keep on looking.

What to Take – Traveling light is the name of the game when you visit Kauai, you can actually buy most of the things you’re likely to need when you get there anyway, but it is advisable to stock up on certain things which might be a little more expensive than in your local store like plenty of sun screen or sun block and sunglasses. Take lots of light clothing too, although the temperature might not get too hot you’ll be busy doing lots of activities so need plenty of shorts and t-shirts.

What Not to Forget – Camera, Kauai is one big photo opportunity, you won’t know where to start snapping first so don’t forget your camera, and plenty of films if you haven’t quite made it to the digital age yet. Don’t forget to take plenty of mosquito repellent either, you’re going to need it, especially if you venture into the jungle. You really ought to take a hat and a water bottle too, so that you’re fully prepared and protected when you’re out and about, even if you don’t usually like "hat hair", it’s for your own good.

What to Leave at Home – Kauai is pretty casual so you probably won’t be needing your dinner jacket, black tie and your tiara, you’d look well out of place. Smart casual will be just fine.

Accommodation – there’s no shortage of accommodation on Kauai, whatever your budget, but you would be wise to book something before you get on the plane, especially if you’re traveling in high season, sleeping on the beach might sound appealing for a night or two but for a couple of weeks! Get real.
