Kauai on a Budget

Here are a few tips on the best way to visit Kauai on a budget.

Money is tight these days, for many people, but that doesn’t mean that they have to give up their dreams of a vacation in paradise. Although to be honest, no trip to Kauai is ever going to be really cheap (well it’s a long way across the ocean you know) there are ways how you and your family can have a really great time on this island paradise without breaking the bank.

Kauai on a Budget

Flights – these are probably going to be the single most expensive part of your vacation, you’ll probably need to fly to Honolulu and then a short 25 minute flight from their to Kauai. Don’t just book the first flights you find, search about a bit and you might be amazed at some of the savings you can find, especially if you opt to travel out of high season. Oh, and talking about the flights, get a window seat if you can, the view from the plane as you fly in to Kauai is truly awe inspiring.

Accommodation – most people these days are internet savvy, and whereas you’ll probably find the best deal on your flights by searching online, the same can often be said for accommodation too. There are some real bargains to be had, and very often you’ll be offered a substantial discount if you pre-book online, got to be worth a look at that then. You will find some great value hotels which are placed right in the middle of all the things you’ll ever need, so you won’t need to worry about hiring a car to get about – take a look at the Hotel Coral Reef on the Royal Coconut Coast, you won’t get much better value than that, and oh, the location, location, location.

Things to Do – trips and tours will never come cheap, but there are substantial savings for these too if you book online (you might be surprised at what you can find), but the old saying "the best things in life are free" could have been written about Kauai, with around 50 miles of the most glorious sandy beaches anywhere in the world, and they’re all for free, what do you need money for anyway? Pack up a picnic lunch, take plenty of water and head to the beach – lovely.

What to Take – most things can be bought on Kauai , but many of them will be a little more expensive than you would expect to pay on the mainland. Stock up on a good supply of sun cream or sun block, mosquito repellent, sunglasses, hat, all the usual stuff, oh, and don’t forget your camera, there’s a photo opportunity around every corner at Kauai.

Getting About – don’t fancy driving around the island but want to get out and about, how about renting some bicycles. They’re a great way of seeing different parts of Kauai which you wouldn’t normally see, at a fraction of the price of hiring a car, and it’s good fun too.
