Class Title: Director of Golf Course Maintenance
Department: Department of Public Works
Status: Civil Service
Salary: $3,515 per month (SR-24)
Appointment will be made at that step in the salary range at which qualified applicants can be recruited.
Duties Summary: Plans, supervises, and coordinates the construction and maintenance activities of an 18-hole municipal golf course and its facilities; and performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements: A combination of training and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major work in turf or plant science, landscape architecture, agronomy, or a related field, and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of turf or plant science, landscape architecture, or agronomy; three (3) of which must have demonstrated technical knowledge in the application of agronomic practices in the maintenance and imporvement of greens, turf, and fairways, and two (2) of which must have been in a supervisory or lead capacity. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license and possession of a Hawaii Certificate for Commercial Applicators of Restricted Pesticides (Category 3) prior to completion of probationary period.
Knowledge and
Ability:
Agronomic practices for golf course construction and maintenance; general policies and procedures governing golf course layout and landscaping; technical practices and methods required to preserve greens and fairways for proper playing condition; herbicides, insecticides, fertilizers, fungicides; principles and practices of supervison; budget preparation; report writing; public relations, the ability to plan, organize, assign, and review the work of subordinates engaged in the construction, imporvement, and maintenance of a golf course; determine the proper use of chemicals; supervise the use of herbicides, insecticides, fertilizers, and fungicides; conduct studies and prepare written reports; keep records; prepare budget estimates; give clear and concise oral and written instructions; deal tactfully and effectively with the public and employees.
